It’s the season for sharing God’s love with others! Help kids say, “I love you!” with these heartfelt Valentine’s Day crafts for children’s ministry.

Valentine’s Day Craft #1: Pop-Up Cards

When kids craft these simple, 3-D cards, their words of love will hop right off the page and into their friends or family members’ hearts.

Supplies:4 Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Crafts (1)

  • cardstock
  • construction paper
  • child-safe scissors
  • crayons or markers
  • glue sticks

First, kids will…

  • Decide whom to give their card to.
  • Think about what makes that person so special.
  • Silently pray and thank God for that person.

Then, kids will…4 Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Crafts (2)

  • Fold a piece of cardstock in half.
  • In the center of the folded edge, cut a one-inch slit toward the open edges of the card. Leave a 1-inch space and cut another one-inch slit parallel to the first.
  • Open the card and pull out the strip so that it creates a little step in the card.
  • Write what they love about the recipient inside the card. Or draw that person a lovely picture!
  • Cut a heart from construction paper. These heart templates can help! Then glue the heart onto the step.
  • Test to ensure the card will close with the heart hidden inside. The heart may need to be trimmed to remain hidden inside the card.
  • Glue a piece of construction paper to the outside of the card to cover the slits.
  • Write the recipient’s name on the outside of the card.

Valentine’s Day Craft #2: Wrap n’ Roll Valentine

You’ve never seen a valentine like this before! This delightful Valentine’s Day craft lets upper elementary kids wind up words of love for friends or family members.

Supplies:4 Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Crafts (3)

  • cardstock
  • copy paper
  • child-safe scissors
  • clear tape
  • ½-inch pieces of jumbo drinking straws (2 per child)
  • regular drinking straws (1 per child)
  • pencils or markers

First, kids will…

  • Decide whom to give their wrapped-up valentine to.
  • Consider what they love about that person.
  • Silently pray and thank God for that person.

Then, kids will…4 Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Crafts (4)

  • Cut out the largest heart they can fit on an 8 ½x11 sheet of cardstock.
  • Fold a piece of copy paper into fourths the long way, then cut on the folds to make four long pieces of paper.
  • Tape the four pieces of paper together to create a long skinny strip. Flip the strip over and tape all the seams so that each side of every seam is taped smooth.
  • Tape the a pieces of the jumbo straw at the top and bottom of the heart as close to the edge as possible.
  • Insert the regular straw through the jumbo straws.
  • Center the straw and tape one end of the long paper to the regular straw. Wind the length of the paper onto the straw by spinning the straw.
  • Write messages on the paper. If kids aren’t sure what to write, encourage them to finish this sentence: “Here’s what I love about you…”
  • Wrap the paper around the straw again so it’s ready to be given away!

Valentine’s Day Craft #3: Agape Love Globes

Think snow globes, but with hearts instead of snow! With this Valentine’s Day craft, clear cups create globes that help kids and families celebrate God’s agape love.

Supplies:

  • clear cups
  • cardstock
  • construction paper
  • child-safe scissors
  • markers or crayons
  • small foam hearts
  • confetti
  • glue

First, younger children will…

  • Listen as you explain that “agape love” is love from God! It’s the deepest and best form of love that we experience.
  • Sing “Jesus Loves Me” together.

First, older children will…

  • Listen as you explain that “agape love” is love from God! It’s the deepest and best form of love that we experience.
  • Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Then, for younger kids…

  • Place a cup upside down on cardstock and trace the opening to make a circle.
  • Cut out the circle.
  • Cut a piece of paper in half, and then fold it in half. Draw a heart on each side of the paper ahead of time and write “God loves me” inside the heart.
  • Encouragechildren to color the heart and draw on the paper to add decoration.
  • Give kids confetti to fill the cup.
  • Help kids glue the cardstock circle to the cup so it stays closed.
  • Shake the globes and watch the confetti help to celebrate Jesus’ love.

Have older kids…

4 Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Crafts (7)

  • Place a cup upside down on cardstock and trace the opening to make a circle.
  • Cut out the circle.
  • Cut out a heart with a small rectangle attached at the bottom.
  • Write “Love is…” on the paper heart.
  • Cut a slit into the circular piece of cardstock and slide the rectangle piece of the heart into the slit.
  • On foam hearts, write words that describe God’s agape love from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
  • Glue the cup to the cardstock so it stays closed.
  • Shake up the words that describe love.

Valentine’s Day Craft #4: Tic-Tac-Toe, I Love You So!

Kids experience God’s love through our friends—and through this Valentine’s Day craft! Kids will build a lovely tic-tac-toe board and play with a friend.

Supplies:

  • cardstock
  • decorative tape
  • foam hearts in 2 different colors (5 of each color)
  • child-safe scissors
  • resealable bags (1 per child)

First, kids will…

  • Think of a friend they’d want to play with at home.
  • Silently pray and thank God for that friend.

Then, kids will…

  • Use four pieces of tape to create a tic-tac-toe board on a piece of cardstock.
  • Select 10 foam hearts—five each of two different colors.
  • Use the hearts as game pieces and play with a friend.
  • Store the pieces in a resealable bag.
