Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern, Lamb lovey blanket , Amigurumi lamb (1)

When I was working on this free crochet lamb lovey pattern, I was determined to try something new that would make this lamb lovey blanket stand out of the crowd. I used a new technique to crochet the head so instead of using a bobble stitch I tried something simpler but just as affective. It is my favourite part of this Amigurumi lamb lovey! Why don’t you check out the pattern below to find out what technique I used to make the head? 😉

Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern – Notes

Skill level: intermediate crochet skills and knowledge

Finished size – blanket: 28cm x 28cm (11 inches x 11 inches)

Finished size – lamb height: 10cm (4 inches)

Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern – Materials and Equipment

Yarn I used for this free crochet lamb lovey pattern:

– Light worsted #3 = DK/8 ply

– 51% cotton and 49% bamboo blend

– 2x ball of pink yarn – Coboo Lion Brand – colour 101 – (100g/212m)

– 1x ball of white yarn – Coboo Lion Brand – colour 100 – (100g/212m)

I love using the cotton and bamboo blend for this pattern as it makes the lamb lovey blanket super soft and cuddly. You can purchase the Coboo Lion Brand yarn here in US and here in UK.

Or just simply use any 100% cotton that will work just as well. You can also use 100% acrylic if you prefer to work with this type of yarn.

Other materials used: polyester fibre fill, a long piece of black thread yarn for eye embroidery

Crochet hook: I used 3mm = C/2, if using different weight of yarn then refer to hook size recommendations on the yarn but go one size smaller. I highly recommend this ergonomic crochet hook set from Amazon as it comes in a stylish case and with other accessories such as stitch markers etc.

Other equipment used: scissors, yarn needle, pins with large heads, stitch marker or thin yarn to use instead

Choking hazard warning: the use of safety eyes or buttons poses a choking risk for children under the age of 3 therefore I recommend using embroidery instead.

How to Crochet the Ears

Crochet the inside and outside of the ear as two separate circles; you will then crochet the circles together.

For both the inside and outside of the ear:

R1: MR – 6 x SC into the ring {6} – watch this step by step video tutorial on How to crochet a magic ring for Amigurumi

R2: INC in each ST around {12}

R3: (SC in next ST, INC) x 6 {18}

R4 (inside of the ear only): (SC in next 2 ST, INC) x 6 {24} – FO and weave the yarn end in

R4 (outside of the ear only): (SC in next 2 ST, INC) x 6 {24}

R5 (outside of the ear only): SC in each ST around and DO NOT FO {24} – don’t cut the yarn off as you will continue to crochet with it when joining the circles together

To join the two circles of the ear together:

Place the inside and outside circle on the top of each other making sure that the wrong side of each circle is on the inside

R1: You will need to single crochet the two circles together:

– leave your hook in the last ST of R5 (outside circle) from the above pattern

– slip your hook through the next ST of the outside circle (pink one)

– and then slip your hook through any one ST of the inside circle (white one) – Pic E1

– so you now have two STs on the hook, SC these 2 STs together

– SC the corresponding STs of each circle together all the way round and FO {24}

To shape the ears, fold the ear in half and then stitch or crochet 2STs on one side together and leave the other side open – Pic E5

– take a new strand of the pink yarn and attach it to the first front loop of R16

– chain 1x and SL ST into next ST

Eye and nose embroidery:

Embroider the eyes using a long piece of black thread yarn. I embroidered the eyes between R9 and R13 leaving 11 stitches in between the eyes (count INC as 2 stitches).

To embroider the nose, use the same pink yarn you used for the blanket. I embroidered the nose between R2 (below the magic ring) and R5 (above the magic ring).

How to Crochet the Blanket

Crochet the blanket in rows; this is a double sided blanket so each side will have the same pattern.

Start with pink yarn.

R1: Chain 65x {65}

R2: SL ST into 2nd CH from the hook, HDC in next ST, (SL ST into next ST, HDC in next ST) x 31, CH 1x {64 excl last chain}

R4 – R67: Turn your work over, SL ST into 2nd CH from the hook, HDC in next ST, (SL ST into next ST, HDC in next ST) x 31, CH 1x {64 excl last chain}

R68: Turn your work over, SC into 2nd CH from the hook, SC in next 62 ST, 3xSC in last ST {66}

How to Crochet the Love Hearts

Crochet 3 hearts.

Crochet 2 separate circles that will form the top of the heart first; join these two circles together and continue to crochet the bottom part of the heart.

First circle:

R1: MR – 6 x SC into the ring {6}

R2: INC in each ST around {12}

R3: SC in each ST around {12}, FO and leave a tail as you will need it for sewing later on

Second circle:

R1: MR – 6 x SC into the ring {6}

R2: INC in each ST around {12}

R3: SC in each ST around {12}, do not FO or cut the yarn off

You will now join the two circles together following the pattern below.

R4 – continue from where you finished with R3 in the second circle:

– SC in next 6 ST

– insert your hook into one of the stitches in the first circle (Pic LH1)

– SC in next 12 ST – this includes the stitch from the above step (Pic LH2)

– insert your hook back into the second circle (Pic LH3)

– SC in next 6 ST – this includes the stitch from the above step (Pic LH4) {24}

– you will notice there is a little gap between the circles and that is quite normal (Pic LH5)

– using the yarn tail from the first circle, close the gap with a few stitches on the inside of the heart (Pic LH6)

R5: SC in each ST around {24}

R6: SC in next ST, INV DEC, (SC in next 2 ST, INV DEC) x 5, SC in next ST {18}

R7: SC in each ST around {18}

Start stuffing the heart.

R8: (SC in next ST, INV DEC) x 6 {12}

R9: SC in each ST around {12}

R10: INV DEC all around {6}

FO and stuff well; close the hole using a yarn needle and leave a long tail for sewing the heart to the blanket.

Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern – Assembly:

Attaching the ears to the head: Pin the ears to the head making sure they look symmetrical from the front, side and back. Sew the ears to the head. I placed the ears between R18 and R20 of the head.

Attaching the arms to the head: You need to attach the arms to the head first before sewing the head to the blanket. Pin the arms to the bottom of the head as shown in the photo below. Make sure they are centred and sew them on.

Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern, Lamb lovey blanket , Amigurumi lamb (10)

Attaching the head to the blanket: Place the head in one of the corners of the blanket as shown in the photo below. Pin the blanket to the head from underneath and sew the head to the blanket following a pattern of 2 circles. Use the yarn tail you have left after closing the head to sew the head to the blanket. Check that the head is still facing the corner of the blanket every few stitches while sewing.

Free Crochet Lamb Lovey Pattern, Lamb lovey blanket , Amigurumi lamb (11)

You now need to do a bit more work on the arms:

– in order for the arms to stretch forward, you need to bend them (Pic A1) and sew them to the side of the head (Pic A2 & A3)

– you then need to sew the hooves together (Pic A4 & A5)

– once done, pull the corner of the blanket through in between the arms and sew the hooves to the chin (Pic A6). That way the lamb will look like it’s hugging the blanket.

Attaching the love hearts to the blanket: Finally, sew the love hearts to the remaining 3 corners of the blanket making sure they are attached really tight so they can’t be pulled off.
