(U.S. Forest Service website) Shasta Lake Camping info
(Shasta Recreation Company - public campgrounds) Public campground reservations for Shasta Lake, California are made through Recreation.govYou can reserve a public campsite and check availability with Recreation.gov
It's probably easier however to just call the toll-free number instead of using the website. (but I've been wrong before! lol)

Two popular "reservable" campgrounds at Shasta Lake are Antlers Campground and Lakeshore East Campground. These two public campgrounds are located on the Sacramento River arm of Shasta Lake in the town of Lakehead, California. They're both very close to many services and easy to reach from Interstate 5 (i-5). Take i-5 exit #702.
Another popular "reservable" campground at Shasta Lake is Bailey Cove Campground. This small campground is located just off Interstate 5 (i-5) near Holiday Harbor Resort (marina). Take i-5 exit #695.
NOTE: Shasta Lake's public campgrounds are not located on Wonderland Boulevard as may be suggested by address information on Recreation.gov pages. Wonderland Boulevard is the location of Shasta Recreation Company, the company that manages the campgrounds. The written driving directions given by recreation.gov for these campgrounds are correct however.
IMPORTANT: When asking the Recreation.gov operator about available camping at Shasta Lake it's best to give a specific campground name. You will probably need to do some research and then decide which campground you want to reserve.
If you don't have a specific campground in mind, or know any of the names, you can ask about campsite availablity at campgrounds in the "SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, CALIFORNIA" area.
You must ask the Recreation.gov operator for "SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, CALIFORNIA" campgrounds because the words "Shasta Lake" and "Lake Shasta" aren't searchable in their database.

(530) 275-8113General Rules for Camping at Shasta Lake - Recreation.gov Distance to the water from the public campgrounds
The following Adobe Acrobat/.PDF file shows the minimum distance from a campsite to the waters edge for various lake elevations and drawdowns. The distance is computed by measuring the distance from the closest campsite in the campground to the closest shoreline. In nearly all cases the actual distance one must travel will be farther.
How far to the water from each public campground? (291 KB, PDF file) Note: To use the link above you need to know either the "elevation" or the "drawdown" of the lake. To find the "drawdown" of the lake, you simply subtract the current elevation reading from 1067'. This will tell you how far the lakeis from the top. To avoid the math you can click here for the current drawdown information.
